Moshe Rosenthalis (1922-2008) painted four monumental paintings in which he portrayed Jewish history. In his vision, Jewish history began in the Ten Commandments that were received by Moses and given to the Israelites upon Mount Sinai, and they ended in the Zionist settlement of the Negev desert and Jerusalem after 1967. His extensive expertise on Jewish culture lent him a variety of themes and symbolism to work with in his historical representations. These four paintings are widely considered the highlight of Rosenthalis’ overall portfolio, both realistic and abstract.
