Like many brilliant artists, Franz Kafka didn’t gain notoriety until after his lifetime. He almost never published, and on his deathbed demanded that all his manuscripts be burned. A friend of the author named Max Brod could fortunately not bring himself to carry out Kafka’s instructions, and instead achieved the publication of Kafka’s works. He is one of the most analyzed and written about authors of the 20th century. His work has been influential to many other writers and his style has been imitated by many other artists since.
